  • In this video, I make a Steel Knot by Bending Rebar, without using heat.
The knot is called a Prusik Knot
This knot will be used in a future Industrial Style project. I love the look of industrial-style furniture and rebar with knots fits right in with the look I like.
I hope you enjoy my video of the project, it was a lot of fun to make.
The main tools used were a Hammer and a bench vise.
Tools / Supplies, I often use are.
    Marking out Tools
Markal Silver-Streak Metal Marker Round: amzn.to/3mTJDHt

Note: When you bend metal/rebar, you naturally weaken it. Bending it cold will normally cause fine cracks, and it may even break if you put enough strain on the rebar or bend it in the same place too many times. Do not rely on cold-bent steel/rebar to support a load.

WOW! You know of course, this makes you the champion of the world in rebar knot tying! You were definitely equal to my challenge! I’ve thought about this a lot over the past week, and I figured you might have to bend one turn on each side, then the second on each side etc. on account of interference, but you made it look simple doing one side at a time! I am in awe of your talents, and the fact that you use nothing more than an old bolt and a piece of pipe makes you all the more remarkable! Thanks for accepting and aceing my challenge! I’m inclined to challenge you to do a rebar monkeys fist next, but I know next week you’d have worked yourself to death, and there would be a new video! I’m just not that evil of a person though, so I’ll refrain from issuing that challenge! Thanks Gavin! You are truly remarkable!

Loved seeing this in large scale with steel. Did you know you re-invented the spring in a 2,000 year old fibula broach? You didn't quite do it the same way it's done for jewelry. That technique has a trick twist around, instead of your bending together, that creates the arc. It all stays on a long rod until the end. First you make the wrap like you did, then jump over the first spring to the point you measured, creating the arc, then you wind in the reverse direction away from the center, ending with that end pointing in the opposite direction. Then you rotate the end back to the center from that arc distance you measured. I'm very impressed how great yours looks. It's not easy in bronze wire and you did it in rebar!

I agree 100% with what you said. We do need to keep doing things that make us think and keep our minds active, and to do new things at times is a good thing, you get a very uplifting feeling when you finish something that you at first thought would be difficult to do.

Thank you very much. Sometimes they want to crack, and you can never bend it back too far if you over bend it. Heat is always the answer, if doing it cold does not work. Thank you for your comment.

Auctually, bending a 7mm rebar is more easier than 10mm rebar. I tried bending a 10mm rebar and faileds. I’m going to try it again until a 10mm Rebar Prusik Knot is made by me look really nice like your, sir.@Gavin !
Thank you very much for your videos, sir, mr.Gavin ! You inspire me so much !

    • @GavinClarkdiy

Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment. If you keep having trouble try using heat. Unless you see a flame in my video it is cold and not heat-treated in any way. But heat makes the bending much easier and there is less chance of the rebar cracking or breaking, heat is basically your friend when bending steel. I am trying to use simple tools and not use heat unless I have to in many of my videos. Some things will need heat to get the bend I need because it is too hard/big to bend or I do not want hammer marks in it. Thank you for your comment. I wish you the best for your project.

Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment. It is a knot for art only, I made it because I was asked if I could. I will bend the ends up and make a hook, I plan to use the hook in a project with 1/2 inch rebar making a wall hanger.
